The urban scenes I paint intend to trigger emotions and speak universally to the human senses. The emotional response is individual to each viewer. The aggressive paint strokes represent energy and repressed emotion that is transferred from my inner being to the canvas providing a tangible piece of my soul beyond my existence. These urban Detroit images are rooted from and connect me to a closeness I shared with my father as a child and thus provide a tangible object in his absence. These emotional responses bring memory recall to the sounds, smells, and feelings distinct to places that echo in my memory.
